I never posted this work, but it worth it !
Back in 2020, I worked @Histovery on recreating the Versailles Castle in 3 different periods of time. That was a huge amount of work and researches. It took me 3 full months to complete all the work.
The 3 versions had to be perfectly aligned to be able to switch from one to another seamlessly. Technically speaking, each version of the castle had to have less than 200k vertices. A real challenge ! Everything was baked in Vray and integrated with an unlit shader in Unity. The result you see is the baked version render in Marmoset with just a diffuse texture.
I spent a huge amount of time measuring everything thanks to old plans and on-site visits.
The most difficult part was to make it realistic keeping a very low vertices amount. Respect the number of windows, the statues, the garden was also a challenge because everything is done with such a precision. And I can tell you that the Versailles castle have a ton of small details everywhere !
You can't see it here but there is a slight slope from the castle to the very end of the garden and all the things (bushes, paths) had to respect it the keep the real point of view you have on site. A really fun mission where I learnt a lot of things !
